Why Choose Sierra Rotating Electric Products for your Boat?

Most equipment failures on boats are the result of poor maintenance or lack of use, or both. Rarely do parts on a boat wear out from too much use, so having a good, regular maintenance plan in place is essential to keep your boat in tip top condition and help give many hours of trouble-free boating, particularly when it comes to your engine.

Of course, even the best maintenance program can’t prevent the occasional problem so should your engine need replacement parts either during servicing or as the result of a component failure you have a choice to make. Do you use the original manufacturers parts which can be expensive? Do you use automotive parts which are cheap but not made for the harsh marine environment or worse could not be engineered for marine applications and could be a safety hazard? Or do you choose Sierra quality marine components which are built to last and backed up with an industry leading lifetime warranty when installed by a professional marine dealer?

The Sierra Rotating Electric range includes starters, alternators, and trim motors for most engines, all of which are USCG approved and CE compliant where applicable.

Starters

First of all, never be tempted to save money by using cheap automotive parts. They might appear to be the same but there is definitely more than meets the eye. Take a starter motor for example - marine grade units from Sierra are designed for spark/ignition protection to prevent ignition of fuel vapor contained within the bilge of a boat. They are assembled using corrosive resistant materials and sealed to prevent water intrusion and corrosion which helps ensure long life. Not only that but each unit is tested for proper operation and includes the testing documentation to prove it. So, when you bolt on a Sierra starter you can do so with confidence, knowing that it will fit and function right the first time.

Alternators

As with starters, always use marine grade alternator units. Their purpose is to maintain proper system voltage during operation and maintaining proper voltage and battery health, not to charge the battery. All Sierra units are tested for assured reliability out of the box and with the most complete coverage for both outboard and stern drive applications, Sierra will have the alternator you need to keep you charged up and on the water.

Trim Motors

When it comes to replacing a tilt and trim motor or a complete trim assembly, Sierra has the widest range available. All meet OEM specifications or utilize design upgrades for improved performance and are supplied with the wiring harness and relays as required. 90/10 copper bushings are used for longer life expectancy and the high temperature epoxy armature provides strength to secure wires. In addition, Sierra regularly leak tests random samples of the trim motor assemblies in a water pressure chamber.
