Can you use VP racing jugs for gasoline?
No. The 5.5 and 3 gallon VP Sportsman jugs, and similar plastic utility jugs from VP, are not certified for storing or transporting gasoline and/or kerosene. The intended use is for racing liquids, oils, other non-gasoline or kerosene mechanical liquids, or dry materials such as salt for de-icing, small pellet animal feed, or non-potable water.
Why can't I use VP jugs for fuel?
Federal and state regulatory agencies such as the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), Department of Transportation (DOT), California Air Resources Board (CARB) and others, have strict safety standards for portable fuel containers intended for gasoline. Reducing the risk of flames, safety measures that prevent accidental spills and leaks, allowing for expansion, and proper venting are all required to certify containers for gasoline storage and transport. VP jugs do not meet the requirements that allow storage and transport of gasoline and kerosene.
